Different Types of Warts

1) Verruca Vulgaris: The scientific name for the most common wart. These resemble thick bumps in the skin. They are rough to the touch and have small visible blood clots. The common wart is typically found on knees, hands and elbows.
2) Genital Warts: These are found, as the name suggests, surrounding the genital area. They resemble common warts but are usually smaller and might be skin colored. This is a very dangerous type of wart because just like many strains of the human papillomavirus, they can become cancerous.
3) Flat Warts: As the name would suggest, the flat wart is flattened and usually more smooth than other warts. They are darker ranging from skin colored to brown and are most prevalent in women, especially on their face.
4) Plantar Warts: These thick warts are usually found on the bottom of people's feet. Because of their texture, they can be mistaken for calluses. Because they are on the bottom of the foot, they become painful and usually grow into the skin.
While you are best served getting warts examined by the doctor, you can usually self-medicate most warts with products found at your local neighborhood pharmacy. Genital warts are perhaps the most dangerous variety and you should seek medical attention if you suspect that you have contracted them.
